I Want You!

I Want You...

....to be praying for Discovery Church, our staff and the people of Greenville, NC

No Baby Yet

Waiting for a baby to come is really something that is enjoyable and excruciating at the same time. It's enjoyable because of all the anticipation and excitement that surrounds the questions you wonder about "what will they look like?" "how will the rest of the family react?" and "how big will they be?". Not knowing what we're having only adds to that excitement. But it's those same questions that make it an excruciating experience - even before the labor and delivery. You wonder if they're ok, will they be healthy, how will the delivery go and will everything be alright? It's already hard to sleep and when you can't shut your brain off, it only adds to your restlessness.

So, no baby yet. He/She is due on July 4th - and like I say, "Something's going to POP!" Until then, there's really no rest for the weary. Must be preparation for when the baby actually arrives.

Party In Heaven

I'm excited because one of the men I've been talking to for a while accepted Christ tonight. He actually called me and asked me to come over because he wanted to know "how to be saved" I had asked him if he would be willing to share a little about why he kept coming to Discovery Church even though he wasn't convinced or a believer yet. We start this series on Sunday called "F.A.Q." and we've taken questions any questions people have written down for us over the past couple weeks and we're going to answer them (and some 'suprise' questions from the audience) We think the church should be a place that isn't afraid of questions and doesn't treat someone who may not already know about Noah or Moses or even Jesus like their questions are too basic. Church should be a safe place to ask questions and discover the truth. All I can say right now is somebody in Greenville, NC has discovered truth and acted on it tonight!!

Back Again

OK...been off here for a while because I was too stupid to actually go to the link on our website and click on "blogs" and just clicked on my shortcut (not knowing that our webmaster moved it to here). Oh well, figured it out now.

Remodeling
As I type, my kitchen is being destroyed and prepared for new tile on the floor. When we bought the house, the tile job the previous owners did was, let's just say, not that good. To make a long story short, somehow our realtor was able to get someone to pony up and replace it all. So that's great news, it's just a mess (and the doors have been open all day while they're tearing it out so when I got home it was 81 degrees INSIDE)

Pool Update
The update is. . . I haven't done anything with it in ove a week except drain it 3 times (it kept raining - dumb Alberto) and frankly I don't want to have to shell out money for a new liner. But, I will and hopefully will have it up and running BEFORE the baby gets here.

Waterworld

So back to the pool I've been trying to get up and running. Now, I remember that it has been given to me for free and I'm thankful. But I ended up paying to rent a trailer to move it up here from FL, I had to pay to get my in-ground propane tank relocated and yes, now I'm going to have to pay to get a new liner most likely. How do I know this? Well, I started filling it up and the liner pulled itself off on one side of the pool and it's not even half full. I'll post a picture today or tomorrow. Dang-it.

ARRGGGHH

Have you ever been so frustrated at something you just wanted to chuck it across the room? I am feeling that urge right now. We've recently changed over some stuff behind the scenes with our website, email and blog (like the new look?) and I'm having problems.

EMAIL
So I spent over an hour on the phone with our web administrator trying to figure out why the new email wouldn't work and how to get it fixed and up and running (it's kind of an important tool). Let's just say the cable modem and ISP don't make it easy to find out what's wrong or fix it, but it was finally back on line. Too much. Let me explain. I can get the email, read, and delete it, but inevitably it will download again. And again. And again. Up to 12 times I've had it happen. Not only that, I get the same email, days after I've dealt with it, and it shows up in my list, days ago. Just tonight I went to check and found I had over 50 messages (in the last 20 minutes!) I think I'll fix it with a hammer.

BLOG
This looks better, but I wanted to upload a picture of Brent and Dusty (new staff) yet I can't upload any new photos...can't even get to a dialogue where I could blame my ineptitude. So, text it is.

EMAIL UPDATES
I try to send out a prayer update every Monday, and I have for the past couple weeks as we've gone through these changes. Guess what? That's right, they aren't getting through. I think the listserve didn't get transferred. It's saying my emails are getting sent and I don't get any error messages, but I don't know who they're going to. Whoever they are, I hope they enjoy them.

PODCASTING
It sure would be nice if we could figure out what our problem is on Sunday's and why we are having a hard time making a decent recording. I'd kinda like to make our messages available, but frankly, the quality stinks. We talked with some guys who may be able to help, but I'm sure they'll also expect to be paid. If they'll take $20 we'll be ok otherwise, we'll just have to do what most church plants do....go without or figure it out. We'll keep you posted.

I've got small group now, so perhaps my computer is saved for the moment.

So What?

I got an email that made me ask "so what?" about insignificant things like my pool. It was about a woman I've never met or even talked to before. Her name's Valerie.

The Story
I found out that Valerie was a woman in her thirties who really believed in Discovery Church and what we're doing here in Greenville, NC. She worked at a hair cutting place and decided to donate her time and all the money she made on Thursdays from 3-8 to Discovery Church. I thought that was extremely nice, but when I found out she had cancer (again) I was more than impressed. We had only recenty started doing pre-launch services at the theater and so I had my kids make some homemade cards and we asked people to sign them and write notes of encouragement to her. We sent one or two every week.

The Rest of The Story
We sent the last note we had on Monday this week. We found on on Wednesday that Valerie had died. As I write this, they just finished up holding a celebration service to remember her life. She leaves a husband and son as well as family and friends. But what totally had me crying was this email I referred to. It came from someone at the church Valerie attended and they mentioned that Valerie had requested that instead of flowers, people make donations to Discovery Church! We'd never met and here she was continuing to bless us even in death. I can only pray that she will meet in Heaven, some of the people we reach because of her prayers, sacrifice and servant's attitude.

Thank you Valerie for modeling the self-less love of Christ. I'll see you when I get there.
