I'm studying for a series we'll be starting in about 6 weeks or so and it revolves around the Sabbath and rest. Let me just tell you that I think we move way too fast. There's just so much that can be done and stuff we think 'needs' to be done that we don't take time to sit and be still and listen enough. I'm guilty of it and I talk to people all the time who would give one of their appendages for a break.
So as part of my studies I figured I'd ask,
1) what keeps you from taking the kind of rest you want and need?
2) when you do rest, what does that look like?
Any help and insight would be greatly appreciated by more than just me I'm sure.

I'm currently raising my son on my own since my husband is away in the Army. I find that work, housework, and spending time with my son keeps me from resting at all. When I do rest, it's normally reading a book while taking a bath, or just plain SLEEPING!
For me, I find that even if I slow down physically, my mind doesn't stop thinking about all the things that still need to be done, or things that I should be doing instead of sitting still!!!! My rest comes from going out and sitting in my swing & reading (plenty of books to read right now!!!), or from taking a bath and reading one of the above books! Unfortunately, I don't think I take time out to "rest" enough. I keep moving until I burn out and then I crash.
this Summer, I started making a "to do" list. It keeps me going without having too many ADD moments. My problem is that sometimes I say "one more thing, THEN I will rest". I guess my list needs to have rest added to it.
And when I do stop, I have been reading a lot. I love that!
By the way, there is a video from the Andy Grifith series that speaks on slowing down and resting. I'll try to find a way to send it to you...
Valerie, thanks - that'd be great. Might be able to use it.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Michelle and Sheila
How about the rest of you? What keeps you from resting and if you do rest, what does that look like?
