So I don't understand what goofball came up with the idea that schools shouldn't give F's and should institute a "no-fail" policy. I was reminded of this when I saw this article today. I'm guessing there's a reason that the high school drop out rate is around 30% in the US and it's not because students don't get enough "do overs." I mean seriously - do people really think that not allowing students to fail prepares them for the real world? Are you kidding me? Whoever came up with that idea deserves their own "F." I just don't understand the reasoning behind lowering the standards so the kids who don't measure up can feel better about failing. Somebody please explain this to me.

Things I Just Don't Understand (part 4)
I remember when I was in school (and considering college and post graduate work I've been in school a long time) whether you didn't do your work and pass the tests you or you turned in every assignment, studied and passed exams, either way, you earned a grade. Some got A's and B's and yes, some people actually earned an F. In fact, I often told students who asked me to pray for their exams that they would get the grade they deserved instead of that they'd get an A.

i agree and i dont understand it either and im in it. Its not fair to the people who do get As and Bs and are trying b.c the kids who dont care get all the credit when the people who do care dont get anything.
I know as a former college teacher, they need to keep numbers up. The state gives money to state and community colleges based off of number of students enrolled. If a teacher has hard standards, they are out the door.
It really bites, but students have learned that they don't have to do much work to get good grades. I used to face this problem all the time.
If my students failed, some would instantly complain to my boss that I didn't know how to teach. I constantly had to justify each F even if it was as simple as saying they didn't do half the work.
It starts in public school and goes all the way through college and we are producing students who can't even use a comma.
I don't have any answers, just want to say that I am just as frustrated working in an elementary school. AND the fact that my son is going to be inducted in the honor court this Thursday when he has been passing his classes by the skin of his teeth. (getting away with minimal work is not teaching him how to deal with the 'real world')
The dumbing down of American society does not end in the public school system. The church is in probably worse condition than that of the general population. We are told to give attendance to reading, exhortation and doctrine...count the elders worthy of double honor who labor in the word and doctrine.....preach the word with all long suffering and doctrine....with sound doctrine convince the gainsayers...speak the things which become sound doctrine....all scripture is inspired by God and profitable for doctrine....and yet...the word doctrine is never mentioned in most churches...isn't that amazing?
Does your church understand the doctrines associated with the body of Christ for this present dispensation of the grace of God?
There is a day when every saved member of His body of believers will be judged (graded) and there are no do overs ...we will all be judged according to...here it comes....doctrine. to 1st Cor. 3 gives witness to what I just said.
It's past time we get off the nipple and begin cutting our teeth on the meat of the word.
Isaiah 28:9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
And we wonder why our society isn't doing so good. If you reward idiots for being idiots, you will make them more idiotic and inspire others to do the same. What a system we have created...
